    It must have been the "Tirpitz". Launching 1 April 1939

        I agree that the occasion was the launch of Tirpitz, but I'm wondering what Scharnhorst was doing there. Photos & film show the Tirpitz sliding down the ways into the fitting basin, and no other big vessels are seen floating nearby (Scharnhorst had been commissioned on January 9th).
        The bigwigs were at the bow of Tirpitz for the traditional launch ceremony, not on the Scharnhorst.
        Maybe afterward special guests were invited on Scharnhorst for a celebratory banquet (just guessing).
