Pic SS Officer no tabs

Here's a strange pic.
It is an officer of Westland but it seems he has no tabs on his collar.

What could be a possible explanation for this?

A practice by higher ranked personnel in the field was to remove the tabs from the collar to prevent of being a sniper target.

SS officers often had issue service tunics with enlisted insignia and no piping round the collar tabs to wear in the field.

Sounds logical and may have saved lifes.
Still they hung on to the shoulderboards. So imo a sniper who did his research, could still pick out his juicy targets.

Great photo! Do you know his name? In my view he looks like as Dietrich Ziemssen. He was adjutant of "Westland" in summer of 1941.

I agree, it definitely appears to be Ziemssen. I compared some known photos of him, and the mouth and chin match.
