    Please help to identify order

    Hello, guys.

Could you help me to identify this order? The whole portrait will be showed after it will arrive to me (it is on the way). Form of a cross similar to the form of the Greek Order of the Phoenix. Portrait is dated 1936 year. Also the person on the portrait wears Gallipoli Star (maybe it will help).

    Thanks in advance!

    Greetings, Rostyslav.

'Greek Order of the Phoenix' was my thinking as well however as you most likely know it had a large Phoenix on it and no rays coming out of the sides,As well there is no viable lettering or emblems on the arms of the cross but the cross in identical.

Finally there was no pin back version of the medal only a necklet and ribbon medal.

If the photo is dated 1936 there is no way it is the military version it has a crown so it must be the second type.

    Very odd

If his other medal is a gallipoli star, awarded by turkey, it's unlikely he would also be wearing a greek medal I would think.

        Hi!

That's in all certainty not a Greek Order of the Phoenix. The Phoenix would be quite visible, superimposed on the cross, where the circle is seen. The Order was instituted by the Venizelist faction, during the republic period, so it was initially void of any royal emblems. Although the Order was adopted by the Greek Kings after 1935, the crown was only added on the suspension ring, not on the cross itself.

If my eyes don't play tricks on me, I think I can see an "L" and a crown on the circle. It's out of my collecting field, but I would suggest a search towards the direction of Imperial German orders, possibly Bavarian ones. That would be more logical, too, IMO.

        Best regards,
        Giorgos

Not a match, but the shape of the main body of the cross is reminiscent of that of the Bulgarian red cross order:

Well 4 hours of looking and no luck

Went through two very good books on Pre WWI German state awards and three book on world medals nothing even close (except the Order of Phoenix, one Columbia order and one from San Maronio but most are not even close

There are some very odd house orders associated with the Thuringian States perhaps it is one of those??

Post this on http://gmic.co.uk if the brains on that site can;'t figure it out no one can
