    Here is the title:
This detail is a little disturbing: Not good quality, IMO. Maybe a "dry run" for what to put on ?

We can guess 'til the cows come home, but we will probably never know for sure.

To me it seems odd that there appears to be zero shelf-wear at bottom of boards and spine.
It sat on a shelf, never moved, or in a box since bound(or re-bound?). It just suggests a more recent re-bind, imho.
Can we see closer and better lit photos of spine ends, top and bottom?

Also since we are picking this apart, to near death; Why is the paper not discolored where it lies on top of the leather (died BLACK leather) for supposedly 60 years?
That to me suggests a more modern re-bind. If we look at this book in another 60 years, the paper will most likely be discolored along the outside edges inside covers.
I have handled thousands of books looking at these things.

Also, if you could, do a black light test on the paper, inside cover and free-end papers.
That could shed some light, no pun intended.

        John,
Going by that logic, mint badges/daggers/visors would be modern refinishes too. Why not a book? Some stuff got lucky and was well stored, other stuff not. Simple as that.

        Just my 2 cents.

        best

Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.

I will take some better pics later today.
I canĀ“t do the blacklight test though, need to get a blacklight first

Hey, don't shoot the messenger, I just sayin'; red flags......also, what does it matter, it's a nice looking book now. What's inside is fairly common.

No problemo John. My thoughts were, there's mint stuff of every "flavor" out there, so it would be no problem for me to accept the book as such.

No problem Hank, sometimes I get carried away with my opinion anyway.
You right, condition can be misleading. That's always a good point.
                Cheers,
                John
