This was quite a common thing. The allies ordered the removal of the national insignia as you know, also the denazification of decorations, but i have a copy of an order given by the allies where they make a particular exception for the iron cross.
I'd also say that their decorations were put away normally and they only put them on for the photo.Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Hi Guys. Thanks for yr Comments. On the following, not located but taken may 1945 and presenting Officiers and NCO's from the 23rd Pz.Div., the Adler have been authorized without Swastika !! Insignias seems to have been "denazified", but it is quite hard to be sure.
Concerning the Knight Cross Prisoner in eastern France, nobody knows who he is ?? </P>
