Recently sold on German Ebay....

Any explanation for the huge "8" on the engine cowling instead of the fuselage ?? (forgive my Luftwaffe marking ignorance)

Note the canopy top sitting vertically on the right wing...tail swastika is on the original photo...

Interesting photo. It was not uncommon on some of the earlier 109E's to have the staffelnummer on the cowl.
