Yes, I saw this one on Ebay too Trev. I agree, the best Priest photo I have seen yet. Probly why it sold for so much loot!

Great photos Simon and Ian! Love the cross on the cap Simon.

Hm-m-m... Guys, which one of two World Wars you date this portrait? For me - it's WWI.

            Greetings, Rostyslav.

                      Hi,

                      Very good thread!
While personally not being of a religious nature, I wonder if somewhere research could be done to give a history of Wehrmacht Kreigspfarrer during WW2?
Being a collector of mostly paperwork, I have several letters written to families of fallen soldiers; and these (Usually letterheaded) items of correspondence name several priests which may be recorded.
One in particular, which comes to my mind is Dr. Alois Beck; who wrote a Divisional history which was published in 1983.
Apparently the book has many colour photographs (Beck being the unofficial photographer of the Division) including the man himself.
I am particularly interested in this person, as I have two letters from him to the family of a fallen soldier, and photographs of the KIA persons grave taken by Beck himself.
The book is entitled "Bis Stalingrad", and I have seen it for sale on German book websites for about the 55 Euro mark.
I wait until after Christmas to buy this book as a present to myself, haha!

                      Best wishes.

as I told (# 5 here) there is book with the results of a research on priests in WW2 :

                        Title:

Hans-Jürgen Brandt, "Priester in Uniform - Seelsorger, Ordenleute und Theologen als

                        Soldaten im Zweiten Weltkrieg" 1995

Some superb photos. I especially like the one with Dietl in it. Cheers, Torsten.

                            # 7 picture right:

It seems that this priest was part of the "Schutztruppe" in Deutsch-Südwest Afrika.

                            His hat does indicate this.
