How to spot fake french Douai "SS flyer"

    Hi,

the initial infos were posted in the "Show your SS poster" topic located here :

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&postcount=508

Thanks to novedvory for confirming my doubts !

Here we are speaking of one of the two flyers known to have been printed by the Werbestelle der Waffen-SS in Douai (north of France, which was under the control of the Military Command of Bruxelles).

A massive stock of unused flyers was found in the attic of the Werbestelle (located on "9, rue de Bellain" in Douai) in the 80's.
Informations about the use of the flyer are currently unknown (year of printing and distribution).

The flyer is using the well known "Dich Ruft Die SS" front cover in black and white. The text is in german and is signed by SS-Hauptsturmführer Aldabert Schindlmayer, who was the Kommandeur of the Ersatzkommando der Waffen für Flandern und Wallonien.
More infos about him courtesy of our colleagues of Axis History :

Originals of the flyer are still available on the market, usually for a very high price. A few websites are currently proposing originals (usmbooks for example).

The problem is that confirmed fakes are flooding the market. The fakes seemed to came from Germany. In the last months a few ones were proposed on Militaria321, so beware !

Fortunately i own an original and a fake, so pictures will speak for me ^_^

This is easy to spot that a "bigger" and a "small" versions exist.
The REAL one is the bigger one.
To be sure, ask the seller to compare with an A4 paper sheet. If the flyer has the same size, this is a FAKE. The original is wider than an A4 sheet.

Original : 21,8 cm x 15,4 cm, "heavy" paper, sand colour
Fake : 20,9 x 14,7 cm (A4 size !!), less heavy paper, dark sand colour

The text has the same size, but you can easy spot the difference at the back of the insert : it's like more than 0,5 cm are cut from the bottom and left sides of the fake as is the dotted line incomplete !

    See You

      Vince,
Thanks! Apparently I have an original. Because it had never been issued, I thought it was a post-war copy.

        Hi,

The exact goal and use of that flyer is still unknown. Was it even used ?
I'm lacking any infos on that.

As it is in german, was it planned for the polish-french population who came to France in the 18e Century and worked really hard in the coalmines of the north of France ? Or the Germans who immigrated in the same area in the past decades before the war ?

In the 30's/40's almost no one knew a foreign language...
Maybe the Ersatzkommando der Waffen-SS für Flandern und Wallonien try to "boost" their number of volunteers ?

        See You
