    War Merit Cross Citation

Hi,everyone, obtained this some 40 years ago with the medal, never been sure as to what it is.I was told it was a provisional citation prior to receiving the full certificate. It is of thin paper not card type, anyone shed any light on it,I think it could be fake ,when it is superimposed over a known original it matches exactly except for the middle typed part, opinions would be welcome

I would say it is a fake. The Commanding General for Luftgau XI at this time was Ludwig Wolff so Otto Meissner's signature shouldn't be there. Plus Hauptmann is not only spelt wrong (single instead of a double 'n') but isn't a rank of the SS.

I agree, quite a poor fake for the reasons Hucks mentions.

Comparing actual document styles doesn't help for the most part as fakers copy them from originals (there's exceptions of course) it's the contents that trip up the fakers more often than not.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Thanks for the information, as I suspected it is a fake, paid very little for at the time and the cross which came with it is 100% so not to bad.
