This photo was taken during "Operation Market Garden" in the city of Arnhem, Sept. 1944. I'm trying to figure out what the large painted letter "A" with the arrow stands for?
My first guess was that it was a road marker signifying that the city center of Arnhem was in this direction but the area where this photo was taken is already in the city. So it has to stand for something else.
Also a mystery is the painted SS lighting bolts on the wall with the arrow.
Hope someone out there might know something to help make sense of these road markers.
Thanks.
