Wrong place at the wrong time...

I've read that some Panzercrews were shot too from time to time because they wore black uniforms with skulls on them, just like the Algemeine-SS

There where a number of incidents like the above at the liberation of some of the camps. I was an unbeliever and always though they where post war pro-Nazi propaganda.

However the cases are well documented but passed over by most US, and UK historians and official histories, and reports at the time gave the usual 'A few guards where killed'. The upper-ups in the Us chain of command just simly ignored it.

Recent histories are more correct about the number kill out-right.

There was at least two well documented and photographed incidents on surrender day. One where a group of Luf prisoners, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time where shot down. The official reports says about 15 but looking at the photos (some posted in another thread one can clearly see many more than that)
The other was the shooting of about 20~30 unarmed waffen ss soilders who again had nothing to do with the camp but just happend to surrender at the wrong place and time.

There were about 20~30 guards that where killed as well usually as individuals rather than a mass shooting.

Wikipedia has a good article on it

                Dachau Massacre

Jürgen Zarusky article is good one that really brought it back into historical light but really underestimates the number and who was killed all one has to do is look at the photos of the coal-yard to see they where many more than 16 and they where not SS. No fault of his he did not have the photos at the time only the 1945 report. The photos from the report came out later

After the Battle quotes a figure as high as 300 for this incident. Of course only Germans could be responsible for such behavior, right? How about the orders to execute Waffen-SS and Fallschirmjaeger POW's out of hand during the Bulge?

At this one to Murphy's Laws of War.

Never surrender where an atrocity has been committed.

It shouldn't be a shocker that all sides committed them. Its just another aspect of reality left out on the History Channel.

I have spoken with one of the US troops who shot the Dachau guards. He said after they saw the situation it made complete sense to them. He never lost a minute of sleep over it. The winners write the history books.

Gunning down unarmed people, and not losing a minute's sleep? Sounds like a genuine psychopath to me.

Presumably you have never been in a war?
