I found this picture in an album I recently bought with all kinds of snapshots of a Belgian family. There were some pictures in it with a British soldier from the 11th armoured division en some pre-war Belgian military pictures. Most of them were easy tot recognise, but this one is something special. See at the man kneeling in the front row. He wears a British (wartime)/ Belgian (postwar) uniform, and has an Eisernes Kreuz I. Klasse and a verwundetenabzeichen.
I have two Hypotheses:
1.) This is a British soldier who is visiting the family short after the war / leberation, and has put on his souvenirs he collected during the war. Because the medals aren't put on the uniform according tot the german regulations, it is a possibility.
2.) This is an ex- eastern front volunteer, who gained his freedom back by going to the Belgian army. The pictures of the album are taken in the late fourtees/ early fifties, the Korean era, so this is a possibility too.
What do you think?
