German Panzergrenadier with Tommy gun

Hello,

today i took a better look on the Panzergrenadier photos i wanted to sell on e-stand and was very surprised.

Two from the soldiers wears Tommy guns.

The most photos from this lot shows the Russian campaign.

Could this photo be the Western front or is it also Russian front and the Tommy guns are captured from Russian soldiers which they get the Tommy guns from the land & lease program?

Not only guy you marked/ shown have the Tommy gun. the other guy turned back also have Tommy gun.

Most probably they were from land & lease and photo was taken in Russia or in Poland in late war period ( typical period wood hauses with straw thatch ).

That license plate on the half-track has a pretty high number indicating this probably is fairly late war as 'anmarlodz' has noted. Cool picture though! I wonder if they were able to get .45 ammo for those easy? Maybe they captured a cache of ammo with them...

Form me this could be pic from antipartisan action. Tommys could be captured.

Tommy gun was used by Polish partisans (parachute airdrops).
Highly doubt that soviets used such non typical in Russia machine pistols.

Because the houses i thought also eastern front.
Thank you for the tip with the license plate number - hears logical to me.

I think the cal .45 ammo maintenance (at the eastern front) was the biggest problem for the German soldiers. So the PPSH 41 and PPS 43 would be better to replace the German Infantry weapons?!

The license plate number is not particularly high... it's only six digits. I've seen them reach seven digits. Also, isn't that an early model Sdkfz. 251?

Sdkfz 251, Ausf A or B

Sdkfz 251 Ausf A or B, produced up until mid- 1940. I think the photo is early-to mid war (there's also an MG 34 visible, leaning against the 251)

Not standard Tommy guns either. These look like early mod 28s most likely Brit or Canadian in origin part of the 'Standard kit' for some AFVs Matildas, Valentines etc.

The US sent over mostly M3A1s which where quickly stored the the Soviets and not used in any large numbers. Allot of these stored M3A1s have come on the market since the 90s

British M1928A1 is a good assumption. Definitely a cool photo too!
