The buttons may be a clue to his identity, I have never seen them on an (issue) Heer tunic. Also what is the circular medal above his EKI? Could this man be a foreign volunteer?

It's strange, because he does not looks old, but IMO it is Hungarian Commemorative Medal for the WWI...

I think he is actually wearing either the large silver or gold Hungarian Medal for Bravery.

It was first instituted in 1922 in silver only. Then, in 1939, a bronze, large silver, and gold medal were added. These could be awarded to German enlisted ranks/NCOs. Then, in 1942, a gold medal for officers was added. (Oberst Hans Ulrich Rudel was awarded one of those.)

This RKT appears to be wearing his back-to-front (reverse side showing). Probably a typical German thing to do. The reverse of the bravery medal does look very much like the obverse of the WW1 Commemorative Medal for Hungary.

Sorry, though, I cannot identify this RKT.

        Best regards,
        Tom

The buttons seem to be hungarian also!

The Hungarian Bravey Medals (Bronz, Small Silver, Large Silver and Gold) were instituted in 1939 (not in 1922) and the Gold medal for officers in 1942. The system of the WW2 bravery medals copied the WW1 austro-hungarian.
He is not the only german who won it in the hungarian front.

              Interesting photo anyway!

I hope anybody could identify him!

                Hello,

Sorry if I was wrong about the original institution date. The information I referenced stated that: "Initially the award was instituted in 1922 in silver only." I know that info via Wikipedia can sometimes be in error. Seems like most of the other info is correct, though.
