SWB Inscription Translation Help

Hello All,

Not sure where I should post this, but, hoping someone can help me with a translation from the reverse of a Silver Wound Badge.

As best as I can make out, the inscription appears to say "Schütze Asch anl 3 Güed". I believe there is a city, Asch, in Bavaria, but it could also be one word 'Aschanl or Aschant?'

Any suggestions?

I read "Schütze Asch am 3. Glied" .

I have to explain "Schütze" is gunner and "Asch also Arsch" means ass.

German soldiers were nicknamed among themselves / oeach ther "Schütze Asch" just to generalize a common soldier without a special name.

Here a German book dealing with letters written by soldier. The title


'SCHÜTZE ARSCH' : Die Kriegsbriefe Heinrich Bölls / Von Benedikt Gondolf.

"Kriegsbriefe" are war letters and Heinrich Böll was a famous German writer. He wrote a lot of letters from the front which are published in that book.

Thank you for that insight.

Understanding what 'Glied' could also mean...and finding this insight somewhat humorous...might I translate the inscription to mean "shot in the ass in 3 places / times?" (hence, the Silver Wound Badge...) Just a thought.
