Photo Album - Good Price ?????

As photo albums are not my expertise, I would value opinions from those who know this area.

I have an opportunity to purchase a photo album from an out of the way antique store here in FL. It has 50-60 black and white photos; half are LW reservists in training, some regular LW unit shots. The other half showing Heer soldiers in typical garrison related duties and training. Lots of uniform / equipment shots.

Priced at $110. I am not even sure I would keep it, but is the price worth it ?

Kevin, photo albums are hard to price. If they tell a story like a soldier's duty history, they would be worth more than a collection of odd shots of military pics. Notations or notes in the album would give it more value as well and, of course, albums from rare units or hard to find branches (SS) would carry more value as well. I tend to price these at $2 per photo. I figure that if I take pics and have them developed, it will cost me about 50 cents per print. For something of historical, unpublished value, I'm more than happy to pay $2 per print. Hope this helps even though it is more of a personal guide than a hard and fast value.

      Richards is correct....

      Hi Kevin,
Richard gave you some good advice. The price for SS and Fallschirm albums have gone through the roof. The only other thing I would add is that I tend to value technical photos (as does the market) a little more. For an average album with 100 soldier group fotos I would price it $0.50 to $1.50 per photo, while an album with 100 mostly destroyed tank, downed aircraft photos I would value closer to $1.00 to $2.50 per photo.

Also, time frames have become more important. The majority of albums I see are dominated by early 1936-1942 photos... Many French campaign and early Russian campaign photos..(The "Happy" times) If you can find photos later in the war, 1943-1945, they would be worth a bit more...

If you want a frame of reference, try looking at the finished auctions on Ebay.de
      Goodluck,
      Dave
