I have 2 portraits of an (for me) unidentified unit.

Do somebody know anything about it?

Yes this is the badge of the soldiers stationed at the maginot line.
Or in french Insigne général des Troupes de Forteresse de la Ligne Maginot

On the top of the badge it should read ON NE PASSE PAS -- Nobody gets through.

Is it true, that there where only 110 soldiers and that 107 died in this panzerwerk? Do you know the grade of the soldier on the picture?

I am afraid there is not much more I can tell you since this is not my field of interest. I visited the maginot line twice and remembered this badge as being worn by units stationed at the maginot line. As for his rank? There are no chevrons or anything else visible in the photo.
