    4th SS Polizei Question

From a US vet, I acquired a small grouping of East Front
photos which I suspect pertain to the SS Police Division.
Here is one of the photos:

Is this General von dem Bach-Zelewski?

    another from the same series

Can anyone tell me which ethnic legion the soldier at left
belonged to? Also, is the police officer at right dressed as a member
of the 4th SS Police would be, or was a a member of another police
organization, assigned to anti Partisan duties with the 4th SS?

        Hallo Bando

In my opinion, colonel Kononov , the commander of the 5th Don Cossack Cavalry Regiment.

            Hello.

This man is nothing to do with the 4th W-SS Polizei Division.

He is a memeber of a police battalion/regiment which were indeed used for ant-partisan activity.

(The Polizei division wore army style tunics with W-SS arm eagle and police collar litzen until Feb' 1942 when the division was authorised to wear full W-SS uniforms.
Police units wore police style clothing and displayed the police eagle on their arm as your photo illustrates).

The photo of Von Dem-Bach is a well known published photo and I've seen the cossack officer with polizei officer photo before.

            Regards,
            Chris.

A mix of various SS/Police uniforms and insignia can be seen throughout the division's history as many held dual rank. Numerous photo examples can be seen in volumes 5 and 6 of my SS/Police German Cross in Gold Holder series.
