I wonder anyway why somebody had been awarded the EKKII in march 1940 - there was no (ground-) fighting as far as I know. So a good chance IMO he might been a pilot?

While there was no ground fighting in March 1940 there were still aerial activities over the Western Front with reconnaisance aircraft crossing the borders so maybe it is linked to something that happened with one of those type of sorties or it may just of been a very late award for something that happened in the Polish campaign in 1939. From what i can figure out from http://www.ww2.dk/air/recon/aufklg22.html the unit was equipped with Do-17's around this period.
