    Deutsche Akademie der Luftfahrtforschung

I am straying off my usual Combat Badges parts of the Forum here, so please be kind! I need a little help.

I have a couple of Paper items for the German Academy of Aeronautics Research, that I could use some help with. They will be going up for sale along with a Gold Cased Award, a Bronze Award, and the miniature stickpins. I am confident all this stuff is good, but am open to opinions.

I have a Doc Grouping to a Prof. Heinrich Helmbold. One of his docs has a Milch signature, the second is from Goring, which I believe is autopen but am not sure, and a third document with Hitler autopen, and two additional ink signatures. Can anyone here ID those names. Sorry, but I'm stupid when it comes to 3R signatures.

The second request is regarding the letter signed by 'Vath'. Is that name correct? Can anyone translate the letter?

And since you guys 'live here', how often has German Academy of Aeronautics stuff turned up?? Does anyone collect this stuff?

    Thanks for your help,

    Mark

      Hi Jeff,

Since I collect award badges, the Gold and Bronze awards were my main targets. The posted documents were purchased at the same time as the Awards, all from George Petersen. The Paper Documents are all to Heinrich Helmbold. The Gold and Bronze Awards are not implied to be Helmbolds.

I haven't a clue as to Heinrich Helmbold's origin or Nationality. Since German Academy of Aeronautics Research collectibles come along so infrequently, I bought it all. Included in the Docs was the 'English text' award. In the prewar days, I guess it is conceavable that the German Academy of Aeronautics Research honored a native German living in America, or that the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences was an American institution, which recognized Helmbold as a German professor, and residing in either Germany or the U.S.

It is pretty much speculative as the Deutsche Akademie der Luftfahrtforschung is not a well researched or documented organization. I felt fortunate to have acquired the documents I did, as I have never seen any others which survived all to one man.

My goal is to have some document 'specialists' look this over and concur that it is authentic pre45. Once it is 'blessed', I hope to sell all documents as a grouping. Feel free to chime in with any info available.

      Regards,
      Mark

How about a technical book from the Deutsche Akademie der Luftfahrtforschung, written in both Italian and German text!

Has anyone here ever seen these types of 'Akademie' documents before? Or the signatures on the Hitler Documents? If no one here knows, where do you suggest I try looking? I sure thought this Forum would have knowledgable experts that could help me???

        Thanks,
        Mark

Mark - All these items are, IMO, real. The Hitler and Goering signatures are facsimiles, I believe. The Loerzer signature in the bottom left corner may be an original signature, and I don't recognize the other other signature immediately (although I know I have seen it before). Helmbold was probably a German who was granted membership in the Aeronautical Sciences group by invitation, as there was considerable inter-action between U.S. and German aviation professionals in the pre-war period.

            Leroy,

Thanks for taking the time. Here are close-ups of the two signatures, including Loerzer.

              ..

I would agree that these documents look fine.

Personally I have never seen any of these documents and with the amount of information you have would imagine they could command a decent price.

              Nice items.

                Hello Jeremy,

Weitze has the Gold and Bronze Awards & Miniatures. No Etui, though, for the Gold.

He shows two Documents from the 'Akademie'. Maybe the price reflects the particular recipent.

He is asking more than I plan to ask. I'm looking to get roughly the same numeric amounts as he is asking, but in Dollars, not Euro.

                Regards,
                Mark

If you can get in to Weitze's site, here is the link:
