    Combat portraits

Does anyone have "combat" vet portraits to share. I have seen pics out of the Bundes archive that show the impact of the war on pictures taken in portrait style. I love these as they are not staged or posed. There are an honesty about them that shows the real face of the war. These are copies from the Bundes arcive as an example. Jacques

Excellent initiative Jacques! Let's get some more unshaven and grimy faces.

Hopefully this is an example of what you are looking for. Here is a 1944 date photo. Notice he still wears the early pointed shoulder boards.

Yes he does and I have seen that pic posted somewhere before. From memory I think the soldier was photographed at Stalingrad. Evan his breast eagle is hanging off......top photo.

I used this photo in my book "Angriff". He belongs to 305. Infanterie-Division and the photo was taken in the Barrikady Gun Factory in late October or November 1942.

I never noticed before that his Assault Badge was sewn on. He must have used up all his thread on that rather than fixing his eagle.
