    Hello,

Who can ID the following fighter pilot? => this picture was taken during mid 1944 on a airbase in germany (presumably Kaufbeuren) .

    All help is much appreciated.

    Hi Stijn,

This may be the plane of Eberhard von Boremski of 9./JG3 (emblem for III./JG3 on the cowling, supposed to have the name "Maxi" on the port side, which appears to be partially visible in your image), 90 victories, RK on 3 May 1942 after 43 victories.

This is my fist post here, in fact I joined to answer this, lol.

The picture isn’t from 1944,the plane featured is a Bf109 F, note the small glazed window at the bottom of the windscreen. Also the kill markings on the tail are too low as well, it appears to show 40+ kills, which if it is Von Boremskis plane would be higher. There is a picture in Ries and Obermaiers book "Luftwaffe Rudder Markings 1936-1945" which shows Von Boremskis 109 with 67 kills and is dated July 1942.There also seems some to be some discrepancy in his final score, some sources say 90 but others say 104.

I did a search using google and came up with this site.

        http://decka.net/1256.html?*session...session*id*val*

I think the site is suggesting that the Pilot pictured is actually George Schentke who won the RK 04.09.1941.Who interestingly enough finished the war with 90 kills, so maybe there’s been some misidentification along the line and he and Von Boremski have been swapped etc.
        <O
Have a look at the links and see what you think.

        Hope this helps

        Nick

          unknown fighter pilot

          Hello,

Thank you very much for replying => interesting information.

The picture could very well be misdated by me as it can be 1942 (im not such a fighter guy), however there is hope in this particular case as there are more from the same pictureserie

The kill's and the planetype would certainly make sence to be 1942 but when you look very close towards the port side on my picture you can very clearely see a painted M ... !!!! As Mike said this could be Maxi.

Could the time be corrected lets say : 1942 and that this is the actual Eberhard von Boremski ?, or did other aces from that JG also have that very "Maxi" on their Me 109?

            Hi,

Nick, I didn't actually notice the date in Stijn's post - just the pic! I think it might be incorrect as well.

My info came from Schiffer's "Aircraft of the LW Fighter Aces" Vol 2, P177, where Boremski's Bf109 F-4 (Yellow 4) is sketched for it's unusual 3-tone topside colour scheme. There is no date as such for the colour scheme and only 43 kills are sketched on the tailplane. It's not inconceiveable that the info re the pilot of the plane is wrong in the book. Stijn, do you have a close-up of the pilot?

              Hi

I think it is Ofw Otto Wessling with his Yellow 2 - under the cockpit is 'Peterle'

                'Unknown' 109

In mid-May 1942 the whole of III./JG 3 was at Fl.Pl. Straubing to re-equip with the Bf 109F-4. There are a series of photos from this time that have been published in various sources (usually only 1 or 2 photos in any one source). All 3 Staffeln are shown. The Prien/Stemmer history of III./JG 3 has many of them, as well as an ancient 'Modelmagazin Fotoarchiv'. Of those, the most well-known are of Boremski's 'Maxi', an F-4 coded 'yellow 4', WNr. 13320. The posted photo is the Bf 109F-4 of Ofw. Georg Schentke named 'Peterle', probably coded 'yellow 2'. Both he and Boremski were credited with 43 vics at the time. (There were 2 photos of an F-2 from 9./JG 3 coded 'yellow 2' named 'Peterle' with 4 vics posted about a year ago on E-Bay-Schentke had 4 vics at the start of 'Barbarossa'.)

There are several other identified F-4s from this time. Oblt. Viktor Bauer, the Stkp. of 9./JG 3, flew a 'yellow 7' named 'Ellen', WNr. 13325. Ltn. Rolf Diergardt, a winner of the Deutscheskreuz, flew 'yellow 10' WNr. 13324 which was named 'LiLiLi'. Hans Schleef from 7./JG 3 flew a 'white 4' named 'Katya'. Photos of this machine recently appeared on the TOCH board and may still be available.

                              i am confused ?

                              Hello,

Now you guys have me confused => the " Peterle " was flewn by :

                              * " Ofw Otto Wessling with his Yellow 2 " according to Bryan

                              or

                              * " the Bf 109F-4 of Ofw. Georg Schentke named 'Peterle' " accroding to Jim

So who did fly the "Peterle" ?

Cordial greetings and thanks for helping,
