When I look here (http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=1371) I don't see a Generleutnant that looks like your signature for that time period. That would make me nervouse I think.

Yup, Ostmedaalle docs are almost always retroactive because the date represents when the unit was (officially) eligible. Sometimes you will see documents that have two dates on them - the eligibility date and the actual award date.
