    Beobachter Abteilung citation

I have the this citation and the Soldbuch and other books from this man and I always wonder if this unit was an organic one from the XXXVIII A.K. or part of an Artillerie Regiment. Also what means "tbew." I like to know something more about this units as I have received other citation to a member of a Beobachter Abteilung (the numbered 4), but this time subordinated to the 18 Inf.Div. (mot).

    Thanks in advance

    Hello Angel:
The abbreviation "tbew" stands for "teilbeweglich" or partially mobile.
Tessin records that the Beobachtungsabteilungen were Heerestruppen therefore allotted on a need basis. I was unable to find detailed information on the unit here.
Bur it appears that it was subordinated to XXXVIII. Korps since Gen.d.Art. K. Herzog ( Eichenlaub and also Ritter des Koenig. Saechis. Militaer St. Heinrichs Orden) signed the document.

Thanks Bernhard, this unit was deployed in the North sector of the East Front and ended in Kourland acording to my sources. If they are Heerestruppen, could be deployed subordinated to a particular division? The other piece I have is the citation for the EK II awarded by the general in command of the 18 I.D. (mot).

      Thanks again

        hello Angel:
I am unsure of the subordination as low as division level. The Abteilung could be deployed in different batteries having assigned sectors to survey and would cooperate with the divisonal artillery commander ( the commander of the division artillery regiment). But more likely subordination on a tactical basis was to the corps artillery commander , I believe called "Arko".

Perhaps based on a recomendation of the Art.Reg. commander of this unit the soldier received the award for his efforts supporting the divisional unit.

          Thanks again Bernhard
