Karner and Allerberger is the very same person.

I have read "Im Auge des Jägers" and I must say it´s´excellent.
There you can read why they didn´t wear the Sniper´s badge.
You can also read what could happen to a sniper if he had the bad luck being captured...
Personally I can´t see anything wrong with snipers. It´s´a very effective weapon. More snipers!

I know I am a bit late on this thread but here is a pic of Sepp Allerberger from 1943, I find it striking how young he looks!!

Well, he is signing photos and anyone who has the book can see it´s the same person. The photos can be seen in the book, but with a black square covering his eyes.

Simo Häyhä was sniper in Winter War,which was fought against russians in 1939-1940.This war lasted 105 days.He is only soldier in history of Finnish Army that was promoted directly from corporal to second liutenant. It is said that atleast first 100 kills of him were not even counted, neither those which he killed in other type combat than sniper action. But after those 100kills,he was so famous that every kill after that were counted.

Near his 96th birthday,he was asked an question in interview: Do you feel sorry for those who lost their lives by your gun? Simo answered: I did what i had to do,as well as i could.

                  Here is his grave now:
