        hello:
Ofw. Albrecht Schnitger was born on 1.Oct. 1914 and as stated earlier on 13.Mar.1943 near Rshew (Russia).
His regiment I.R. 18 was a component of 6.I.D. which was formed in Oct.1935 and mobilized for active duty in Aug. 1939. It saw action in the French campaignand remained on occupation duty until transferred to the east in Apr.1941. It then participated in the campaign against the Soviet Union under various army corps and armies but throughout within Heeresgr. Mitte.
I.R. 18 existed since 1921 and was based in Bielefeld with II. in Detmold. The regiment was named a Grenadier Rgt. as of Oct. 1942.
The above covers the time during which this Knightscross recipient served in its ranks.
