Very nice. Do you have the outer carton for this?

Certainly don't throw it out; it's got historical interest and is worth money if you sell it. SS Jule candles in their boxes and with the original RFSS Jule message are quite rare. The lid would make it even more valuable, but a superb example all the same.

It's a tough call. Given the condition of the document I would say 450.00.

                      SS Greetings and yule candle.

                      Hi,

I have a large document/photo grouping for an SS Schutz who was shot in the head (aged 18) at lake Ilmen, and died twelve days later of meningitis at a field hospital in Riga, Latvia.
The soldier in question was in the 15th Company of Totenkopf Infantry 1, and died on 28/8/1942.
His death notice was placed in several newspapers, including "Das Schwarze Korps" 8/10/1942 issue - and from this death notice many letters were received by his family from SS comrades.
One letter, sent by SS Sturmann Franz Widmann which was posted from the field hospital in Lemburg on 21/12/1942 states:-
"Today I have received with great joy your lovely and beautiful Christmas present, and don't know how to thank you.
When I opened the parcel I had to think about Harald, and saw him in front of me. It's unbelievable that he is not with us anymore.
Now Christmas is coming soon, and this time mainly reminds us of our fallen comrades.
Yesterday we had a Christmas party from the SS; at this time we thanked all our fallen comrades and a candle was lit for them during the whole party"
Strange to think one of the candles you possess was writen about in a letter all those years ago.

                      Best regards,

                      John.
