    Himmler Signature/autograph? Inside book!

    Hi all,
I cannot supply better photos... This is all I have to work with seeing I do not own this book (maybe soon)... Does this signature look good or bad? Thanks for taking the time to reply! DP

    Hi,

    This signature looks OK.

With his "famous" green pencil he signed almost all his books.

    Best regards,

    Rene

Seems like an odd book for Himmler to sign. His signature is comparatively easy to copy. I suppose it would require some research to find other 1936 signatures and compare.

Thanks for sharing this interesting book and autograph, Dan; I had not previously known of this title or author. The Himmler autograph and date look fine to me, and again, they're rendered in his tell-tale green pencil. While the book itself may not be obvious as an addition to Himmler's personal library, that may not be the original story. We remember that until two years earlier -- 1934 -- the SS and the NSKK both revolved within the sphere of the SA and its Chief of Staff, Ernst Röhm, and that would have meant that at least some of the higher-ranking officers of those soon-to-be-autonomous organizations would have probably attended staff meetings and events together in years past, and that may have been when NSKK-Gruppenführer Oppermann met the RFSS. Later, when Oppermann became a published author, he may have presented his former colleague, Himmler, with a copy of his book. (We don't see the publication date of the the book in the pix below.) Then, perhaps a year or two after that, Himmler finds it convenient to give this book to someone else, so he signs and dates it and sends it off...to who knows where?! The date of October 1, 1936 was just two weeks after the end of that year's Reichsparteitag and Himmler may have wanted to give this book to someone he met there...?! All speculation, of course, but ain't speculation fun?!?!

Thanks again for this opportunity for a flight of fancy, and I do like this item very much!

This book was not a gift from Himmler; it was a book from his own collection. He signed the flyleaf of almost all his own books and magazines, mostly in green crayon. A large number of his books appeared on the market a few years ago, all bearing the familiar green signature and most (but not all) with an added date in his own hand. This example appears to be a genuine book from the Himmler collection.
The speculation over the Oppermann connection is interesting, but unnecessary as Himmler's collection of books was known to include a diverse selection of reading matter and it is of no surprise to find this particular book among them.
            Regards,
            Max.

Max -- many thanks for the background on volumes from Himmler's library collection being sold a few years back; I was not aware of that. Your response would seem to authenticate this piece. It was fun to speculate, though...!

Yes, as best as one can from the images provided, I think this Himmler signature is genuine.
                  History is always fun!

                    I fully agree !

The Himmler signature seems like a legit one, it really helps to that he dated it.

And as Max said, the book was not a gift from Himmler. Obviously it had to be dedicated, it's a book from his own library.

MAX... I know you guys get tired of hearing people ask about value, but, if I had a rough idea as to the value of such a book as this then I might be able to allow myself a little more room in trying to secure it (grouping of stuff). I've seen a few copies of this rare book (no signature) for about $500., but, with the added signature and having belonged to Himmler's personal library... any idea as to worth having seen some of his library stuff sold in the near past? Thanks for any ballpark value estimates... DP

Based on admittedly non-expert knowledge, I would add a $500 to $700 premium to the book value.

                          In this present market,
I would say on estand :300 $ will move it...maybe. As things stand ,everyday it gets harder to sell.
At dealers site: 500 to 600 but with no one buying.
On some dang fool used book seller's site they will ask for way too much -thinking they hit the jackpot

Himmler's signature is highly wanted, but not really that rare (he signed so many things--the office clerk manager side of him) .
Dont get me wrong, a real signature is a nice thing to have.

As for the subject matter, the SS boys might wait for a more SS related item with his name on it.

This book may have had a soft spot for Himmler as he originally got useful in the very early years of the nsdap because he had a motorcycle and could act as a currier distributing flyers and paperwork

I also have a document signed by Himmler. The document is 100% original signature of Himmler. Who are interested can contact me.
