Letter from front !

Hi !

I have a lot of questions about the letters the soldiers send to their families.



1- What is writed on each line ?

2- What "13b" in the circle means ?

3- Why there is no number on the stamped Feldpost ?

4- The bottom of the letter contains a cartoon. Is it specific to the unit (III Kompagnie) ?

5- Does anyone know the FPN of the 17. Lw.FeldDiv. 34. Jg. Reg. ?

Here the text on each line:

"Familie
Maria Peer
13 b Herblfing Post Wallerfing
bei Platting Ndb (Niederbayern)"

2) 13 b is an old German postal code for the Platting area. Herblfing was a small village close
to Platting. They did not have an own postal station. Their postal station was Wallerfing
(near Platting)

4) The cartoon shows a very common figure in Germany during WW2. It's
called "Kohlenklau" , a man who steels coal - in that way that he steels heat because of
open doors or windows. The "III Kompanie" is not related to the special writer. It was a
common letter cartoon.
