    SS LAH Photo Group

Recently picked these up from ebay, what a nice surprise when the vendor sent some extra items. Which where two extra scanned photos and a lot of information on one of the men in the photos. The extras many not seem a lot but when you consider that this chap was either the son or grandson of the man in question, I thought it was rather cool.

First photo - copy of this chap who was born in 1922 and passed away in 2003. This was of him in Waterloo before been ship to the Invasion front, fought in Caen and then Falaise.

A bit of histroy for our man - 03.11.40 SS - Anw
    28.08.41 SS - Sturmmann
    19.01.43 SS - Rottenfuhrer
    11.07.43 SS - Unterscharfuhrer
    17.08.44 SS - Oberscharfuhrer

                        Hi Simon,

Thanks for sharing. I think that's a wonderful grouping of photos. I've always been drawn to photos that have a personal aspect. After all, we are experiencing a moment in someone's life, a private moment, and with that a privileged one. I always wonder, who took the photo? Why was it taken? What did the moment mean to the subject of the photograph?

                        A great result!

                        All the best,
                        Toby.

                            Toby,

I couldn't agree with your sentiments more.

I think it is a crying shame when 'dealers' break up photo albums for maxium profits!

                              Thanks everyone,

When I started to bid on these on ebay, it was just a group of 9 SS photos, thats why I was over the moon, when all of this extra info came with them.

As you said it just adds that bit extra to a group. Hence through respect of the seller his name family name has been left out.

However, I agree with the splitting of albums just to get max cash from it
although you can see the economics of it.

A question that always sticks in my mind, why is it that the German soldier seemed more prolific in photography than UK/US/Auz/NZ
                              Regards
