Sturmgeschütz gunner (six kills) doc group

This is a small group I picked up and have not completed all the research yet. Uffz. Traubinger won the IC2 for knocking out 6 Russian tanks at the Pulawy bridgehead in 1945. This bridgehead had been established at the end of Operation Bagration along with 1-2 others. On 12 Jan 45 the Russian Oder-Vistula offensive commenced. Uffz. Traubinger won his IC2 defending the bridgehead as the gunner in a sturmgeschütz assigned to the PzJg Kp 1017 of the 17th Infantry Division. I would have imagined that earlier in the war this would have merited the IC1 at a minimum.

          Drivers license

Drivers license. Note picture is a replacement and has a partial ink stamp trace to the left corner. The shoulderboards on the pic ID the man as a member of the 27th PzJg Abt matching the license unit stamp. Also by carefully pulling up a corner of the photo you can see where the photo was signed by Uffz Traubinger. The signature on the photo matches the signature on the license perfectly.

            Photos of Uffz Traubinger

Group came with some photos but most were of him teaching at a PzJg school. These 2 were the most interesting. He looks to have aged a bit from his early drivers license photo!

                  Additional photos

There were actually about 20 more photos but they all pertained to him being an instructor at a PZ Jg school. Training with PAKs and interacting with students. No other good field shots unfortunately!

                    What a great group!!!

It's very interesting to see the recipient's details (even brief details) written on the reverse so late in the war. It's interesting that it appears that he was serving as an instructor for quite some time - and that his first award for bravery came so late in the war.

                      Cpt

will be interesting if you can find if he scored any more kills against Soviet armor by wars end in the Abteilung through your research

                      very nice set of docs/photos
