According to the book on the 44th ID "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" published by Podzun-Pallas Verlag . In 1938 IR 4 was designated "Wierner Infanterie-Regiment Hoch- und Deutschmeister Nr 4", IR 134, 44th ID. Only that regiment held the title of "Hoch- und Deutschmeister. After the Division was destroyed in Stalingrad the 44th ID was given the honorary title of "Reichs-Grenadier Division "Hoch- und Deutschmeister"
