    research question : Pz.Gren Regt. 128

    Hello,

I have a set of documents belonging to a member of the PZ. Gren.Regt. 128 and here is my question , is there anyone who knows who the Regimental commanders where from this regiment from half 1942 towards the end of 1944 ?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Friendly greetings,

    Hi Stijn,
Gerd Ruge last position was Oberst and C.O. of Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128 (23. Pz.Div.). He was awarded the EK1 on 08/08/41, the KC on 07/09/43 as Hptm. and C.O. I./Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128 (2081st) and the OL on 16/11/44 as Obstlt. and C.O. of the whole unit (648th).
He died on 18/01/1997 (other sources state 1977 for the year).

Josef von Radowitz was also the commander of the "128" in February 1944, but I don't know neither beginning date nor ending one. See below for details about this guy.

The last commander of the 23. Pz.Div. was Gen.Lt. Josef von Radowitz (EK1 26/06/40, DKiG 29/02/44 as Obst. and C.O. of Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128, KC 17/09/44 as Gen.Lt. 23. Pz.Div., OL 09/05/45 same position, same unit).

Arnold Burmeister was also a Kommandeur of the Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128 with which he was awarded the DKiG on 09/04/43. He was awarded the KC on 14/01/1945 (4349th) as Obst and C.O. of 25. Pz.Gre.Div.

Some other guys belonging to Pz.gre.Rgt. 128 even though they could not been RegimentsKommandeur :

    Herbert Roltsch
    EK1 13/09/41
    DKiG 27/10/44 Hptm. I/Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128
    NKSiG 08/05/45 Major I/Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128

    Willi Wuschek
    EK1 06/01/43
    DKiG 20/01/44 Fw. d.R. 2/Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128
NKSiG 15/11/44 same position, same unit

    Franz Bierhoff
    EK1 07/08/43
    DKiG 08/11/44 Fw. 6/Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128
    NKSiG 20/07/44
ended the war in 9/Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128
note that this guy was bestowed the NKSiG by AH on 05/09/44

    Hans Endres
    EK1 05/02/44
    DKiG -
    KC 04/05/44 as Ogfr. in 2./Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128

    Willi Jansen
    KC 15/05/44 as Oblt. (Pz.Gre.Rgt. 128)

Hope this helps and note that my list is not exhaustive.

    Denis

      thnaks alot

      Hello,

Thanks alot Denis, i can confirml at least one signature => i wil post scans later ( mayby tommorow ? ) .

The last document ( for the tank destruction badge ) is signed on 07.11.1944 by a oberstleutnant , and i strongly believe it is the signature of the Oak leaves winner Oberstleutnant Gerd Ruge.

The other two documents are dated 1942 and i can not give any confirmation on the signatures => i wil also scan them and mayby the forum members can decipher them ?

Anyway thanks alot for the superb info.

      Friendly greetings,

        Hello : Two more names of officers may be of interest here;
        - Obstlt. Friedrich Stichtenoth, RK on 5.Sep. 1944 as Kdr. Pz.Gren.Rgt. 128;
        - Oberst Emil Vogl, Ehrenblattspange on 25.Feb. 1945 as Kdr.
Also the 4 vol. ref. book on E.L.T. by P. Stockert mentions that G. Ruge may have assumed command (Fuehrer) of Pz.Gr.Rgt. 128 as of Oct. 1944. This is of course in accordance with Denis' post regarding this officer E.L. award.
