    Interesting SS photo

    Hi Guys,

    Can anyone:

    1) Read the text?

    2) Tell me anything about this photo?

I thought it is an interesting piece. Especially the array of different uniforms and headgear. I especially like the full camo on the guy all the way on the left of the photo...

Again, any comments will be very welcome!!

The fellow on the left is wearing an Erbsenmuster(Pea dot/Dot 44) tunic and trousers, the fact he has shoulder boards on his tunic is interesting because it was against regulations.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful photograph of a nice assemble.

Regarding the text on the back, my guess:

      Männ auf mit Hauptsturmführer.

            Thank you very much gentlemen!!

That would place this photo to the southern part of East Prussia!! Any idea what SS-units were operating in the area in the early June 1944?

I have actually not seen a photo of Erbsenmuster for a while... I also noticed the shoulder boards and I thought it was odd...

Thanks again for all the help!!

              Hello.

              Yes, nice photo.

              My thoughts.

The fact that different ranks are present would indicate the staff of a specific unit are gathered together.

This would obviously indicate an allegemeine unit as a W-SS unit would be much larger.

Note one of the nco's doesn't seem to have collar tabs.

              Could be wrong though!

              Chris.

Arys was a troop-training ground. I haven't located the specific unit there, but it was probably one of the SS-Panzergrenadier Ersatz und Ausbildung Bataillonen. These provided basic training to new recruits for the infantry arm. The Waffen-SS had many of these battalions, and a lesser number of similar ones for other branches of service (for tankers, for recon troops, for artilleymen, for assault gunners, etc.).

                    Hi,

Just to add some more detail, the Pkw is a Wanderer W 23S, a specifically built Kuebelwagen.

                    Cheers
                    Steve
