I was quite lucky to receive a sweet LAH Photo Grouping today..including the soldiers EKII and some postwar documents

within the photos was this one with Kurt Meyer (what a Character) that I would like to share with you..

can someone read the name of the Sturmbannführer and the last bit "Im Angriff..???"

    Thanks

                    Vehicle

                    Hi there,

Great shot! The vehicle on the right is a 's. gl. Einheits-Pkw', on a Horch 108 chassis. The function of the vehicle appears to be a Kfz 23 or Telephone truck, note the cable mounted on the starboard fender.

The number plate appears to be SS-166487, can you see this more clearly in the orginal? I would appreciate confirmation on this for my research.

                    Thanks
                    Steve

Nice.... pitty the photographer couldnt get Wünsche properly in frame. Although there are quite a few photos around of this period with both of them together. Die schlacht bei charkow 1943.

It doesn't say "Garkow". Believe it or not, the first two letters actually are "Ch". The long "h" dropping below the line is characteristic of old German and once you know it, it's one of the easiest letters to spot. Have a look at the letter "h" in "Sturmbannführer" and "Wunsche".

I cannot really better make it out than on the scan...the last bit appears like ...497 to me..thats all.

                              Photo

                              Hi Andreas,

Thanks for taking the time to have a look for me, the rest seems like 166497, so I'll go for that. I have a database of 600 LAH vehicle registrations and this is the first Kfz 23 I have come across.

Are there any more vehicle photos in the Konvolut? It would be great to see them if possible.

                              Thanks again for sharing
