U-Boot Commander with Luftwaffe Badges ID?

I recently picked up this photo of a U-Boot commander (and DKiG recipient) wearing a Luftwaffe observer's badge and a reconnaissance clasp. A U-Boot war badge can just be made out under the observer's badge. A number of Luftwaffe officers served with coastal/maritime reconnaissance and bomber groups during the early part of the war - can anyone ID this gentleman?
    Thanks for any input -

So it's between Helmut Dauter and Dietrich von der Esch. But I think it's Dietrich von der Esch...

            photos

            Very nice photos gents.

Richard, interesting photo to the RK winner. Based on his wearing the Minesweeper Badge he likely served at some point with a Minensuchgruppe.

I don't recall off the top of my head if any MSGr flyers received the RK but it is also possible his award occured with another recon. unit seeing as how he is an air gunner.

Again very nice images thanks for showing always love the early KM flyers with LW badges.

            Regards

            Jeremy

The RK is an EKII. Maybe he is just wearing it for the picture and is in fact not really a RK-träger?

              Regards, Thomas

                Unknown Knight's Cross Holder

                Gentlemen,

I wonder if that Luftwaffe gunner who used to served aboard minesweeping aircraft was unofficially awarded the Knight's Cross a few days before WWII ended in Europe. Hence the converted EK II into the Knight's Cross. You know I think those who were awarded the Knight's Cross while serving with observation aircraft were pilots. I may be wrong. The KC holder wasn't a pilot. Just a hunch!

                Sincerely,

                Edward L. Hsiao

He is a RK winner, I've seen photos of him wearing an issue RK (not the EK2) before. His photo appears in a couple diff. books. His name will come to me...... Tom

                      Not Known Yet

                      Gentlemen,

Unfortunately there are no known names of Minensuchgruppe flyers who had been holders of the Knight's Cross. There were some German Cross In Gold holders in the Minensuchgruppe.

                      Sincerely,

                      Edward L. Hsiao

Air gunner RKT are few and far between as well.

If its the same man, it looks like he is wearing a bomber clasp in pic. 2 and the same, upside down! in pic 3.
