Was there a Luftwaffe airfield fireservice in North Africa (DAK)???

    Hello!

Since several years I'm researching about the airfield firefighting service of the Luftwaffe. Usually the firemen were not soldiers but civilian employees. In pre-WW2 time they had a special firefighter uniform. After the beginning of the war the most of the firemen became soldiers to protect them by the international war regulations. All firemen received a new uniform based on the pattern for Luftwaffebeamte.

The regulation LDv 5 says, air traffic is only allowed if fire service is available.

I checked many books and many pictures but found no indication that there was a Luftwaffe fireservice in North Africa.

Are there any information about or pictures showing firemen in North Africa?

Thanks in advance for all answers!

    Regards
    Guenter

    Hi Guenther,

in the book "Blitzkrieg" by Ian Baxter I think I have found a pic of a Henschel type 33 as a so called Flugplatz-Tankspritze TS 2,5 on an airfield in Northern Africa.
If You want, I can send You the scanned pic by E-mail. My adress: b.nold@t-online.de

      Hi Betram,

      thank you for this information!

Until now I did assign Blitzkrieg only with Poland and France and not with North Africa.

An email is on the way to you.
