photo of man being laid to rest

I thought I`d share this photo. It`s rather sad to me,poor fellow isn`t even wearing a uniform.Do you think this is a TR era photo.I`m not sure but it seems to me like a polaroid photo. Also you guys are great at research, any chance you could tell me who he is?

My guess would be an American graves registration photo printed in Europe.

The burial must have been made on the cemetery in Stromberg, a town near the river Rheine.

May be the soldier came down with a crashed/shot down US aircraft.

MIA/uniditified photo as there is no name on the plack?

Having a quick look though the registreation manual a photo of an unidentified seems to be standard pratice.

The photo would be passes up the G3 line of command untill it could be IDed

Definatly US soilders in the pic and this would of been a temporay grave in Stromberg as there are no US War Graves in Germany

Very odd caption on the back if find?
Can be taken in any number of ways?

IMO, Yes, a T.R. era photo. ,,,and No, not a Polaroid.

          Interesting pic, somewhat sad though.

kind of odd that they stripped his clothes for such a proper burial like that. You would think they would leave his uniform on at least or something. I could see if it were in a field grave or sumthin and they didnt care.....but this seems like they took the time to give him a proper registered/documented burial. I dunno, just my thoughts. But definitely a neat, odd, and sad photo all in one, especially with the US soldiers present.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. What happened to his clothes?Whats the name of those who moved the American bodies from Europe? I`d send this photo to them or the family if they wanted it.Pretty easy to fire off a email to the right folks,if ya know where to find them.Kinda morbid for the family I guess but one never knows.

Not everyone dies in combat..this man may have drowned, or fallen out a window...who knows..I seem to recall a pic of an American soldier wrapped in just a towel, laying on the street after a fall from a balcony window ( in Italy I believe?)

very very true, didnt think of that. I guess it is just first instinct to assume that he had died in a combat situation when you see solidiers near the body, but you are completely right.
