Sturmgewehr in photo?

I got this photo of a soldier with what appears to be a Sturmgewehr (in the middle). He has on his chest apparently a case (like a scope case). Opinions please.

Thats a spade - like his comrades carry, too (to his right).

Apart from that, he carries the early MKB-mag-pouches, with only one large flap.

A 2nd MP44 is leaning on the wall, just hehind his right leg.
