Small EK 2 document with very late date.

As the badges increase in price I'm being drawn towards more and more documnets and citation's, this came from a grouping belonging to a merchant seaman along with an early Blockade Runners award certificate

I can't find an example similar, I know EK 2's were issued post war for mine sweeping, but is this unusual with the late date: 6 May 1945 ? Or fairly common ?

    The dimensions are 150 x 100 mm

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

PS Are there any good books on award documnets ?

    Hi Marcus,

Very nice document. I also like the documents and so far they are still somewhat affordable. I have a late war EK 2 document dated 20 April 45 and signed by Generalmajor Domansky. It is the same document as illustrated on page 25 of Emilie Stewart's , "GERMAN MILITARY AWARD DOCUMENTS 1939-1945. Hope all is well there my friend.
    Best Regards,
    Dick

      Hi Marcus,

Very nice document! I do actually know of another the same size as yours and also came with at least a Blockade Breakers badge citation and some other items...
I was told that the document is this size to insert in the "Seefahrtsbuch" or Merchant Seaman's log book.

This one no doubt to insert in a Soldbuch!?!!?

        Thankyou Dick & Ian

That would make sense Ian as the other documents in the set as well are folded up to around this size too, nice one.

Apart from a couple of post war ones in the set.

        Thankyou again,

        Kind regards,

        Marcus

That was an EXTREMELY nice Hard War merchant navy set-- so even if you got nothing at Stuttgart (??) at least you had this waiting when you got home!

            Hey Ricky,

You'll never guess what I bought, all that way to buy FOUR little packets costing the grand total of 20 Euro's in total.

The thing is I was over the moon with them and everyone around me had spent several hundred or 1000 plus with numerous badges.........and there's me with four little bits of scrunched up paper as proud as you like , I felt a little stupid actually. But I'm happy !

            Kind regards,

            Marcus

              Hi Marcus

Nice find , Typed late EKII docs aren't all that uncommon but the size of this one is.

The signature is that of Erich Schulte Mönting, He was commanding admiral of the Norwegian North Coast between 8.11.44 until 17.8.45. He was promoted to Vizeadmiral on 1.4.45 and held the DKiS.
His headquarters was located in Trondheim and his 'patch' covered the coast from just North of Kristiansund to Bodø.

I wonder what action this EKII was awarded for?

                Thanks Simon,

Always glad to know who signed the doc, it makes it more real and interesting with a name to the signature, just imagine he touched this doc........I love it.

                Thankyou very much

Hopefully see you soon one of these days,

                Kind regards,

                Marcus
