    Ribbon identification

    Hello all

A new picture surfaced recently of my Uncle, at the time of the photo which was June 1943 he was an Obergefreiter, with the 8 Kompanie Grenadier regiment 521.
I am trying to find out what the ribbon he has been awarded and is wearing in a picture we have is.
I can't seem to be able to attach a picture in this forum yet see that others have, am I missing something? At the bottom left of the New Thread page it states no attachments are allowed under Posting Rules, is this correct?
    Thank you for your assistance.

It doesn't seem to be an EKII, Not sure on the westwall either but perhaps the volkspflegemedaille?

        what do you guys think?

I think it is the Westwall. It looks to bright to be the red color of the Volkspflegemedaille in my opinion.

            award

I would go with Westwall as well.

Also is it just my eyes or does he appear to have a ribbon in his button hole second from top? Russian Front perhaps or maybe just a faint white line on the image.

Yes, I can see a small shadow under the ribbon. I'll go with the Winterschlacht too. you know the Term "Rollbahnorden"?
Die Rollbahn im Schnee, und links und rechts die rote Armee.
The runway in the snow and left and right the red Army.

                  More info

Thank you gentlemen for adding to my curiousity of my Uncle's picture.
My mother found out from her aunt that this picture which was taken while on leave during Jun 1943, actually 17 Jun 1943 was the last time they saw him, he was KIA between this time and end of the year 1943. This I assume would correspond nicely with Operation Citadel which his unit was a part of.
I found a picture of the Westwall and Volkspflegemedaille together and made them black and white for all of you with much more experience in this than me to have a look at, I will send it through Simon again. Maybe it will be easier to make a closer identification this way.
Was Barbarossa the only Operation the Ostmedaille was issued during?
As I get updated info i will be sure to pass it on.
                  Thank you all again.

Here they are. I agree the westwall seems the most likely.
