Award docs for the dog lovers out there. Unique.

On its way to me at the moment is the very scarce award doc for servcie\care of dogs, but there's a few twists to this. To my surprise it turns out i have this soldier's Kreta cufftitle doc, bought a few years ago elsewhere and i know another dealer has his Lapplandschild doc for sale, though grossly overpriced. Surely a unique combination of awards.

What makes this more interesting is what kind of dogs he was invovled with. The XIX Gebirgskorps up on the Murmansk front in the frozen arctic had to contend with 6 months of winter and virtually no infrastructure other than what they themselves built. So, in the winter months, they took a leaf out of the locals book and employed reindeer and dog sleds for carrying supplies, ammunition and in the case of dog sleds, the wounded.

The dog doc is signed by Max Pemsel, later RK and brand new commander of the 6 GD, just arrived from Normandy where he was chief of staff of the 7 Armee

This photo from one of my albums shows one of these sleds together with a ski patrol.

the extract from the kriegsgliederung of the 6 Geb.Div. from Sept.44 shows the dog sled unit along with the reindeer at the bottom right.

Only a tiny handful of German soldiers were thus trained as 'mushers'

HUGE Congratulations on this one Simon....I saw this document when it was for sale, but (unfortunately and very reluctantly) had to pass as I was then in the midst of a (now successful) major Hunde deal where ever penny counted.

This is an absolutely superb and (very) rare Hunde document. Congratulations once again...

Thanks, once the penny dropped that i already had his Kreta doc, it was a no-brainer.

here's his Lappland (just had to order it too, in spite of the horrible price)

The question is..are there more docs to him out there??

Yes, that Lapplandschild Document (even though stiffly priced) is / was an absolute "Must Have" indeed.

Fantastic to see Staffler's documents coming together once again...

            Nice score Simon!
What does it matter about price anyway? all that will soon be going out the window regardless. Better to have Cool Stuff and enjoy!
            Cheers,

Great grouping Simon. Way to take one for the team, spend the moolah, and bring them back together!

Very cool, Simon. I never knew docs like this existed. This would be a hell of a group if you could possibly find even more of Staffler's docs over time. Great job getting the three already...

Very interesting 12th Armee version of a Kreta citation, by the way.

Thanks Brian, this style seems to have only been used by GJR141.
Other regiments within the 6 GD that had elements involved in Crete had their own styles, like GAR 118 and GJR 143.

He should i think at least have had an ostmedaille, surely a KVKII as well.

                      Congratulations with your grouping Simon.

Although it did cost you serious money, it is great to see those documents together again.

That photo you show with those documents really makes this grouping "talking"., so to say.

                      Thanks for showing.

                        Simon,
Thanks from a fellow collector who has tried to bring groups back together. It's nice to know there are other crazies out there.
