        The Colonial Badge, also called Elefantenorden (Elephant's Order). Was awarded to the people who worked for Germany in the Colonies. This official decoration was instituted in October 1921. By 21 November 1936 some 8000 were issued and it is safe to assume that few later awards took place.

              Yes, a very nice portrait photo, AB! I can't recall ever seeing an EKI ribbon being worn in that fashion; reminds me of a Blood Order Ribbon. Are those crossed sabers to the right of the pocket button? Never seen that before, either! We learn something new every day. Many thanks for sharing.

                There are 2 ribbons there: EKII & Hindenburg Cross. Swords are on the Hindenburg Cross ribbon.

                  Thanks very much, Andrew. I really did know that there was an EKII involved; just put it down to a typo! I'm still struck by the unique way it was mounted on the pocket -- has anyone else ever seen that before? Thanks again,
