    Panzer document / award lot

Hello. I've just acquired the lot shown on the pictures. It belongs all together and consists of:

    - Wound badge black, document + award (Beob. Batterie (Pz.) 92)
    - EKII, document + award band (Beob. Batterie (Pz.) 92)
    - ID tag (2./ Beob. Ers. Abt. 6.)

It would be great to get some information on that unit.

    Regards, Matthias

It was an independent unit and company\battery sized independent units are VERY difficult to find detailed information on in anything other than original records or specialist books.

The only source that springs to mind is the book Aufklärende Artillerie published in the 70s it can be found still and goes for around the 100 euros mark.

I've also seen this unit referred to as leichte beobachtungs batterie 92

Can you read or provide a close up of the EKII stamp, i can see it's an infantry division.

Hello Simon. Thanks for the info. The EKII doc is stamped "Infantry Division 255". I have found some good information about this unit here:

            Nice little group!

I might have some info somewhere but will need to trawl through my books.

I can find out what it became from 1943 but at the moment not pre 1943. It was used to form Beob.Abt. 11 after the original was lost in Africa.

Heres another link for 255 Inf.Div.

I guess the "Beob. Batterie (Pz.) 92" was part of the "20. Panzer Division". In 1943 the "Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 92", the "Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 92", the "Panzer-Nachrichten-Abteilung 92" and the "Panzer-Versorgungstruppen 92" where part of the "20. Pz.Div.". I think it's obvious that the "Beob. Batterie (Pz.) 92" belonged to one of them.
If I should be wrong please correct me.

              Here's a link to the "20. Pz.Div.":

According to this page it was used to reinforce Pz.Art.Rgt. 92 during 1942:

                http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...eg/PAR92-R.htm

However the link I posted earlier refers to it forming Beob.Abt. 11.....perhaps it merged with Pz.Art.Rgt. 92, was reformed then was used to reform Beob.Abt.11......or only reinforced Pz.Art.Rgt. 92 temporarily .....as Simon pointed out they are difficult to track down and generally these Companies were independant.

Certainly it was part of the 20 Pz.Div. for a time. It and the 255 ID were part of the XX armeekorps mid '42 which explains the EKII. My guess is that it was subsequently removed from the 20 PD during a reorganisation of the beobachtungs artillerie.

Thanks so far, gentlemen. How many soldiers had a "Batterie" approx.?

Btw., as soon as I have taken better pictures the group will go to the E-Stand.

Right..so you're not actually interested in the unit but just looking to boost the potential value.

You're on your own, do your own research.

Hello Simon. I've opened this thread because I'd like to provide the right information to the potential buyers at the E-Stand as I am everything but no Panzer expert - not to boost the value. You might be a mod but that doesn't give you the right to attack other members.

You as a mod (not god) should know that the things you've accused me of are to put behind the words "IMO". Aren't mods actually neutral, act as arbitrators and make sure that the rules will be followed? Stick do this but don't accuse me of something what isn't true.
I hope you'll have the nuts to not delete this posting or even the thread. The next time you have a bad day go fishing.

                        Have a good one

Wasn't this grouping on militaria321 or someplace similar? I believe I saw it for sale someplace else recently...

Well, even if you don't agree with Simon's response and tone, he's not doing it as moderator. He's doing it as someone who is selflessly helping with the research of this group. I would think his response would be the same whether or not he was a moderator.

Brian is right, i replied as someone who actually used some of my time in order to help you. Way too often we see people here use others to do their leg work for the sole purpose boosting their sales.

you say 'i'd like to provide..'' you're not...you want others to provide that information.

Would you be willing to provide a percentage of your profits to those who provide the information you're after?
