help with heavy artillery unit Russia

Hi guys.
I just acquired a very nice color slide grouping of a heavy German artillery unit in Russia.
I haven't got around to making high res scans but I was hoping you guys could help me ID the artillery unit from these two sample pics I have.

I looked through the artillery sections of Die Truppenkennzeichen and it's not listed. Not surprising as only a fraction of artillery unit symbols are recorded.

what type of gun were they equipped with?

According to the website http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/, the number plate prefix "IM" = Provinz Saxony. Not much help but it should narrow down the possibilities.

Any idea which part of Russia they were operating in?

Its kinda cool. I live in Saxony, so these guys probably come from around my area... cool. !

About the area of operations. Im not sure.
I am still waiting for the post man to deliver the slide box. Hopefully today, then I can scan some of the slides in high res and hopefully find some road signs etc.

Yep, its a 21cm Mörser 18 (i'm busy building one in 1:35 scale as it happens)


one of the more common heavy guns seen in heavy artillert battalions along with it's cousin the 17cm K.18 which used the same carriage.

Is there any way i can find a unit in the wehrmacht that carried these heavy guns in russia and came from saxony ? Dresden/ Leipzig
