    Ausweiskarte Cover

Slowly since my grandfathers recent passing I have been going through some of his things. As I come across things that I think the board members may be able to help me identify, or just think the board members may enjoy I've started posting them.
The story behind this one as relayed to me was that it belonged to my grandfather's brother who was an SS man killed in action. This is only the cover. It was ripped off and the rest of the document was mailed to Germany in the 1950s in an attempt to claim the fallen soldier's bank account as the next of kin. Unfortunately the rest of the document was lost in the mail and never seen again, nor did they get whatever was in his brother's bank account. Any comments or insights are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

That is actually the ID card needed to access a postal bank account. It was seperate from the Sparbuch itself, (see the number, which should match the buch)) which is where they recorded any deposits.
