I'm no religious expert but I don't think Protestants use crucifixes with representations of Jesus on them. I would therefore say this guy is a Catholic priest.

I just found this on the Net:
The Catholic wears a crucifix as a reminder that Christ was Crucified on the cross for us sinners. The Protestant wears an empty cross to remind them of the same thing, only they feel the Empty Cross depicts Christ risen and therefore not on the cross any longer.

But I stand to be corrected!
