    Tactics marks on German vehicles

    Hello to all

Any idea of those tactics marks on German vehicles ?

Pic taken in May/June 1940 in France near French POW

    - On the motocycle :
A "K" on the Front light
A white Square with a full colored small circle on its top, then on it's right a big number "1"

    - on the car (which model it is ?)
    The plate is W ... 330 ...
Then a square with what is guess being a "13" (or a 18 ?) then an other sign on its top i can't make it out

Sorry it's already an oversized pic

    Thanks

The "K" might be the initial letter of Kleist who commanded the Panzer Gruppe.

The "W" followed by 330 is the vehicle's registration number, it will probably be WH (for the army) 330 XXX.

I think that the rectangle probably has a double arrow and not a circle above it, the double arrow is for the divisional engineer battalion. As far as I know there was no tactaical sign of a rectangle with a circle above it.

The 13 ia probably the company number within a regiment.

You'll find very good information on these signs on this link.

      Thanks for your answer

      - It really looks like to be the K for Kleist. I guess we get it
A motorcycle with the number 1 for the 1st Panzer division (belonging to the Kampfgruppe Kleist)
Maybe from the Krad schutzen battalion from Schutzen brigade 1 ?

      - In addition to it, i have found a "13.(mot.)" belonging to the XIVth Mot AK

It could be the 13th Motoriziert Infanterie Regiment (Gen Major F. Von Rothkirchen & Panten) ?

Does it match such a car ?

I can only suggest that you read my answer again, the 13 is probably the Company number within a regiment, it is not the regiment's number.

1 PD did not use a number "1" for its sign, the tactical sign on the motorcycle is for an Engineer unit not a Kradschützen unit.
