Photo Damage...what's happening?

Hi,
I was looking through some photos that i have yet to sort into my filing last night and discovered that some seem to have a 'rot'creaping from one end? What could this be? The only thing I can think of is that it's due to be stored in the Jiffy bag envelope they were sent in and is a reaction to something in the bubble wrap? They have been in there for 3 years, but I looked at them a month or so ago, and can't think that I saw it then?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Is there any dampness or moisture in or near storage area?
Aso, if you suspect any material that photos are in contact with, remove it ASAP.

Rotting process, due to exposure to moisture and insects.

The album must be kept in a dry storage area with moisture below 30%. Also, try looking for a special spray to ward off the insects.
