I picked this up at the MAX today. Other than being a RMBO promotion document, I do not know much about it - or the organization.

Can someone fill me in a bit?

Normally on a certificate of appointment should n o t be written other (private) things than the signature!

Karl Schmerbeck was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Kriegsverdienstkreuzes mit Schwertern.
Date: 1 Nov 1944

The added words in blue are "wesentlich früher datieren" - to date the document essentially aerlier.

For that reason the date of the certificate is crossed out.
